PFPA chief Ali Kerimli has held a press conference related to discussions in Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) on parliamentary elections.
Ali Kerimli said that he and Sardar Jalaloglu expressed the stance of Azerbaijani opposition, APA reports. According to him, 5 recommendations were put forward in the resolution PACE adopted on Azerbaijan. They are: to conduct investigation on irregularities committed in parliamentary elections, to hold the culprits accountable, to ensure freedom of assembly, to ensure freedom of expression in electron mass media and to form election commissions on parity basis. Saying the mandate of Azerbaijani delegation was approved temporarily and in these conditions Ali Kerimli noted that, this issue would be discussed at June session once again: "If the recommendations are not fulfilled, the government will face more difficult session". As concerns the issue that, PACE calls on opposition to participate in elections A.Kerimli says they don't intend to join re-elections through lack of confidence in the elections: "We firmly stated if election commissions are not formed on parity basis, we will not participate in re-elections". Ali Kerimli said that they had met with new chairman of CE, head of AGO group, chairman of Venice Commission. He also added that, he was offered in the meetings to join re-elections: "But I didn't agree with these proposals".
