The vice Premier, the Russia’s Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov stated that five Caspian littoral states may establish the unified force unit in the region to counteract the mass destruction weapons proliferation, other threats and challenges.

According to Trend, "creating something on the Caspian like "BlackSeaFor" on the Black Sea is possible", Ivanov told journalists.

According to him, he will discuss this subject during his official visit to Azerbaijan, which commenced on Monday.

According to Ivanov, "they will be some unified forces, within which, except for the Defense Ministry, border and special forces will be involved to counteract real threats and challenges available on the Caspian".

Such forces, according to Ivanov, are needed for "synchronization of the Caspian states efforts to defend from the mass destruction weapons proliferation, smuggling, security by the energy resources deliveries", Interfax reports.

Concerning CASFOR, the Azerbaijani minister Safar Abiyev reminded not all five Caspian countries recognized the division of the Caspian Sea, and that Azerbaijan is ready to participate in CASFOR, but only after the division of the Caspian Sea.
