The Azerbaijani side again raised the question on speeding complete abolishment of the Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act [prohibiting US financial assistance to Azerbaijan] at the meeting of the US-Azerbaijani Working group on Economic Cooperation held in Washington.
According to the words of the counselor of the embassy of Azerbaijan in the US Fikrat Pashayev informing APA about it, the US governmental representatives participating at the meeting also stressed that abolishment of the Section 907 will contribute to the development of the bilateral relations between the states. Pashayev also said that they discussed amount of financial aid to be rendered by the US to Azerbaijan for the next year: "The official amount of the aid rendered this year was $ 70 million. However, taking various agreements and projects into consideration in reality, this number was greater. We also raised the question on obtaining aid from the "Millennium Challenge" Corporation. It is already third or fourth meeting when we raise this issue," said Pashayev. According to the words of the counselor of the embassy, the level of corruption and other factors are taken into consideration in the countries these aid is rendered to. The US taking into consideration development of Azerbaijan assured that the country will be included in the list of the "Millennium Challenge" Corporation soon: "The Azerbaijani side is ready to obtain this aid, answer questions and give additional information in this connection. The opposite side accepted our proposals. As to the aid to be rendered next year, the amount of it is not announced yet. It is intended that the US Trade Agency will render financial aid to a development of agriculture, management of the Oil Fund and a development of restorable energy sources along with some other fields".
