The US extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Turkey, Ross Wilson in his reply on inquiry of the senator Paul Sarbanes regarding the Baku-Tbilisi-Ahalkalak-Gars railway line construction stated stated that opinion of official Washington is: the new railway line must be constructed taking economic factors into consideration.

"USA does not hold precise position concerning the new railway line constructed in Southern Caucasus and did not promise to render financial aid to this project," said Wilson.

In addition ambassador stated that from his perspective Turkey must open borders with Armenia. "USA must stimulate regional integration, and all countries of Southern Caucasus must be integrated to this process," said the American diplomat.

Wilson informed that a demand on opening of the border with Armenia is not included in the documents concerning Turkey’s admission to the European Union however he underlined that opening of the borders would serve the interests of the both states, and improve climate of mutual understanding.
