The International Republicans Institute (IRI) will start a republic-wide youth conference on “The youth in Policy: Activity of the Parliament” at the “Aqua Park” hotel of Novkhani today.
APA was informed from IRI that this conference is held as a result of the regional youth conferences successfully held by IRI in 16 regions of Azerbaijan during a year. About 100 young persons from many regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan representing political parties, NGOs, student organizations will join the conference.
The participants will conduct team-organization trainings directed to increasing public and political activity during the 3-day conference. The general subject of the conference is the parliament and parliamentary elections and the participants will form the symbolical parliament and hold elections as a component part of the measure.
“This measure is a very good possibility for young people from many places of Azerbaijan to meet and exchange their opinions” said the IRI head on the country Andrew Kolborn: “I hope that by directing the main attention to the parliament the participants will realize the significance of this democratic institution in Azerbaijan and take active part in elections on November 6”.
The USA ambassador Reno Harnish and deputy-minister of youth, sport and tourism Intigam Babayev will make introductory speeches, the member of Milli Majlis Gultakin Hajiyeva will give an address in the conference. This conference in parallel with other programmes realized by IRI in Azerbaijan is funded by the United States Agency for International Development.
