OSCE voiced its concerns in connection with insufficient participation of women in the work of parliaments and national delegation of the OSCE member-countries, including the South Caucasus countries, according to a report ‘Gender Balance 2005’prepared by a special representative of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE on gender issue, Tone Tingsgård, publicized by PA OSCE.
Over the past 5 years the number of women in the delegations of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia at the PA OSCE has not undergo radical changes.
In compliance with the report, in 2004 the correlation between make and female in the Azerbaijani delegation at the PA OSCE was 1 to 5. In the Armenian delegation it comprises 1 to 3, within the Georgian delegation - 2 to 5. «If the governments cannot find qualified candidates, the national delegations of the PA OSCE might assist them in search of appropriate candidates,» the document underlined.
The same time the document analyzes the situation with the quality of females MPs women in the parliaments of the South Caucasus counties. The figure in Azerbaijan comprises 13 of 124 (10.5%), in Armenia 7 of 131 (5.3 %), in Georgia 22 of 235 (9.4%). The highest rates were fixed in the parliaments of Sweden (45.3%), Norway (38.2%) and Finland (37.5%).
A report on Gender Balance was developed by the International Secretariat of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
