President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on pardoning of a group of persons, condemned for imprisonment.

According to the document, only 100 persons are released from the remaining term of imprisonment, among which there are also persons, considered as “political prisoners” in the lists of European human rights activists, Trend reports.

The decree notes, that decision has been taken in accordance with the Article 109, clause 22 of the Constitution in continuation of the policy, based on the principles of humanity and justice, displaying respect and honor to the human rights and freedoms, considering the appeals of some condemned, their families, ombudsman and others.

Consideration of the issue on the availability of political prisoners in Azerbaijan is expected on 23 June at the PACE summer session.
