A journalist of Italian Corriere della sera newspaper has highlighted his recent visit to Azerbaijan. In his article, Carlo Vulpio calls Azerbaijan “the corridor of Eurasia”, saying the country has a 2,000-year long history.

The journalist speaks of the country`s rich energy resources: “Azerbaijan is one of the leading countries in the world for its oil and gas resources. It is a very important country to the European Union.”

Mr. Vulpio says Italy pays special attention to relations with Azerbaijan. “The importance of energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and European countries has doubled following crises in the world.”

Touching upon the Shah Deniz project, the Italian journalist says it will pave the way for the execution of several other huge projects. He also hails Trans Adriatic Pipeline, saying tens of billions of cubic meters of gas will be transported via the TAP pipeline, whose construction will end in 2019. “TAP is also important from the geopolitical point of view.”

“The signing of the Contract of the Century drew the attention of the world`s huge energy companies to Azerbaijan.”

Mr. Vulpio praises modern architectural landmarks in the country, including Flame Towers, Seaside Boulevard as well as hotels and restaurants. He says Azerbaijani carpets were included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Culture.

The journalist also praises Azerbaijan`s experience in hosting high-profile international events. “Having successfully hosted Eurovision-2012 song contest, Azerbaijan is now preparing to organize the first ever European Games in 2015.”

Mr. Vulpio hails tolerance in Azerbaijan, saying representatives of various nations and religions “have lived together in a friendly atmosphere here for centuries”.
