08 January 2010 [11:28] - Today.Az

The gods have spoken. With Spider-Man 4 tangled up in script rewrites, forcing Sony Pictures to delay shooting and all but guaranteeing it won't be ready for its target date, another superhero is stepping in to help.

Marvel and Paramount are moving up the release of Thor, the would-be comic book franchise-launcher helmed by Kenneth Branagh, by two weeks, to May 6, 2011.

That prompted Disney to stake out the now-open May 20 slot for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth entry in Johnny Depp's blockbuster buccaneer series, which had yet to be scheduled.

Thor stars newcomer Chris Hemsworth as the Norse deity and Natalie Portman as his love interest.

Of course, there's a slim chance production on the Spidey sequel, reuniting director Sam Raimi with stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, will manage to break all kinds of land-speed records and be ready for its original release. In that case, Thor will have to take his hammer and find a new play date.
