By Laman Ismayilova A series of cultural events was held in Baku as part of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games on May 12-22. The events were co-organized by Azerbaijan`s Culture and Tourism Ministry and the Heydar Aliyev Palace. Azerbaijan`s State Dance Ensemble premiered one-act ballet "Koroghlu" by Uzeyir Hajibeyov on May 20, Trend Life reported. The storyline is based on a national epos, which is widespread in Azerbaijan, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Turkey, and Iran, about poor, abused villagers who rise up to defeat their unjust, oppressive khans and beys (landowners) in the 16-17th centuries. This plot matched perfectly with the Soviet ideology and Hajibeyov was awarded for the Koroglu opera with the Lenin Award in 1938, Stalin and People's Artist award in 1941. A stunning choreography and artists’ vivid costumes were highly appreciated by the audience. The performance was followed by a storm of applause. Besides, Baku’s residents and guests enjoyed a fascinating concert "My Azerbaijan". The artistic director and choreographer of the gala evening was the People's Artist of Russia, famous actor and choreographer Dikalu Muzakayev. The concert featured beautiful suites of national composers Vasif Adigozalov and Rauf Hajiyev Azerbaijan's magnificent and majestic nature was shown on the big screen during the performance of Uzeyir Hajibeyli`s music piece "The Cloth Peddler". The music was arranged by Vugar Jamalzade and Ramin Huseynov.
