31 October 2009 [12:05] - Today.Az
“One should not forget that every country has alternative sources of gas,” Turkey’s Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said in an interview with local NTV TV channel.

He said “Turkey and its Azerbaijani brothers also have this.”

Turkey purchased gas from Azerbaijan at lower prices for 10 months, he said.

The deal was signed in 2001 and gas supplies were launched in June 2007. The gas prices were increased in April 2008.

“We reiterate that we are ready to pay the difference in gas prices,” Yildiz said.

“If we negotiate gas prices in a month, we will pay the difference for past period,” he said.

Yildiz said Azerbaijan’s interests are taken into consideration during the talks.

“The only route of Azerbaijani gas to Western channels under normal conditions lies through Turkey,” the minister said.

He said SOCAR and BOTAS continue talks. The next meeting will be held in a couple of weeks.
