Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammed has stated that Ashgabat is interested in supplying gas to the United Kingdom.

The president made the statement at a meeting with the royal family member Prince Andrew, special envoy for international trade and investments, Turkmen Dovlat Khabarlari reported.

The Turkmen leader earlier stated his country’s willingness to supply gas for Nabucco project, through which Europe hopes to ease dependence on Russian gas imports. Ashgabat, who suspended gas supplies for Gazprom because of the accident on the pipeline until the end of the year will deliver the first gas to China via the pipeline which is under construction now.

“With regard to the prospects of Turkmen natural gas to European markets, including the UK, this fully meets plans of Turkmenistan which implements policies to diversify its energy exports to world markets,” the president said.

"For its part, the United Kingdom is prepared to provide substantial support for the implementation of large-scale projects promoted by Turkmenistan,” Prince Andrew said.
