The European commission hopes that the supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Greece will start by the end of this year.

"We do hope that first gas from Azerbaijan will be delivered to Greece via Turkey by the end of this year", a source from the European Commission said.

According to him, the Shah Deniz gas is expected to be transported by the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzirum gas pipeline and further to Greece via Turkey by a gas pipeline communicating Turkey, which was built in 2007.

As is known, Azerbaijan planned to start  gas supplies to Greece in August of 2007. Greece is planning to purchase up to 1,000,000,000 cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas. Another 8,000,000,000 cubic meters to be supplied via Georgia, Turkey and Greece are planned to be purchased by Italy.
