Greek corporation DEPA (with 65% stake of Greek government) forecasts rise in their country’s demand for natural gas.

In 2005 the country plans to consume 2,84 billion cu m of natural gas, while by 2020 the figure will increase 3 times, Vassilios Tsombanopulos, the General Director of the Strategic Panning Department and daughter company of Depa, told a the Caspian Oil and gas 2005 conference on Thursday.

According to Tsombanopulos, in 2010 Georgia’s demand for natural gas comprised 6.14 billion cu m of gas a year, by 2015 it will reach 7,26 billion cu m a year, by 2020 – 8,43 billion cu m a year.

He noted that Greece is considering the opportunities for re-export of gas to Italy via the pipeline. In particular, it is planned to transit 8-10 billion cu m of gas a year to Italy via Georgia. The capacity of the 818km-pipeline is 11.6bn cu m a year. 592km section of the pipeline will be laid on ground, while 212km – via the sea. (Trend)

Gas delivery to Georgia will be implemented via the pipeline connected to Turkey. It is planned to deliver Azerbaijani gas from Shah-Daniz under State 2 of the project, to be carried out   by late 2012.
