Baku hosts forum of National Olympic Committees of CIS countries and Baltic States

A regional forum of the Heads of National Olympic Committees of CIS countries and Baltic States kicked off in Baku. The International Olympic Committee and International Olympic Committee Olympic Solidarity support the event. Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov opened the event.

Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Azerbaijan Chingiz Huseynzade congratulated participants on behalf of the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, President of the NOC and wished success to the forum. The Olympic success of Azerbaijan is connected with the name of the President Ilham Aliyev, said Secretary of the Association of National Olympic Committees of CIS and Baltic States Yuri Yuryev.

Secretary General of the Russian Olympic Committee, Marat Bariev briefed the participants on run-up for the World Summer Student Games. He said that the Student Games will be held from 6 to 17 July, 2013 in Kazan, RF. The event will be attended by 13,500 athletes and members of delegations, according to Bariev.

The forum also heard from Secretary General of the NOC of Ukraine Vladimir Gerashenko, vice-president of the NOC of Belarus Gennady Alekseenko, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Latvia Fogelas Einar and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan Azat Muradov. The forum will wrap up on October 21.
