Azerbaijani wrestlers to compete in Takhti Cup tournament

Azerbaijani wrestlers will vie for medals at the Takhti Cup tournament in Tehran on January 14-15.

Azerbaijan`s squad includes 12 wrestlers.

Takhti Cup will be organized under the United World Wrestling Regulations on 4 approved mats in seven eight categories and will mark the first qualifying event for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The tournament is an important annual wrestling event in Iran, held in the memory of the late legendry Iranian wrestler Gholamreza Takhti.

Takhti, the most famous wrestler in the Iranian history, claimed the gold medal in Melbourne 1956 Olympic Games and won two silver medals in 1952 Helsinki and 1960 Rome Olympic Games. He passed away on January 7, 1968.
