Azerbaijani boxer finishes second in world championship

22 May 2012 [15:33] - TODAY.AZ
The world licensing championship in boxing among women ends in China today. Azerbaijani representative Yelena Vystropova fought in the weight category below 75 kg in the final. In the semifinal yesterday she won an Olympic license.

Head of the Azerbaijani delegation in China Rizvan Ganjiyev expressed his opinion about Vystropova's successful performance. “However, to do so, she needed to win five fights. It was difficult to do this since only three licenses in the category below 75 kg were issued to Europe. Despite this, our boxer justified the expectations. The efforts during trainings of the past two years produced a positive effect. In all fights Vystropova seemed confident and beat two world champions. All specialists appreciated her performance.

We are all thankful to President of the Boxing Federation of Azerbaijan Kamaladdin Heydarov. You know that women’s boxing is just developing. Therefore, we held all trainings and sessions outside Azerbaijan. Kamaladdin Heydarov is also happy with Vystropova’s successful performance and with the fact that Azerbaijani women’s boxing will be represented in the Olympics. We believe that Yelena will win the gold award in the Olympics”.

In today’s final she met Savanna Marshall of England. The fight ended 17:15 in favor of the British sportswoman. Yelena thus finished second and will complete in London Olympics.
