By AzerNewsThe spread of Microsoft Windows 7 operating system in Azerbaijan's market increased by 1.3 percent in the first quarter of 2013, the Global Stats center reported on Saturday.
Thus, Windows 7 is the most popular OS in Azerbaijan with 65.49 percent of the market, which is 31.3 percent more than in the same period of 2012.
Windows XP with 26.16 percent of the market is ranked second. The market share of the operating system decreased by 7.7 percent in Q1 2013.
The market share of Windows 8 OS increased by 93.1 percent to 2.24 percent, according to Global Stats.
In December 2012, Microsoft Azerbaijan announced that localization of Windows 8 will be completed in the first quarter of 2013.
Microsoft has already translated into Azerbaijani the Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems, as well as Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office 2010 office suites.
About 20 percent increase of iOS installations was also reported in the mentioned period. The program currently has a share of 1.68 percent on the operating system market in Azerbaijan.
At the same time, an 11.4 percent decrease was registered in the share of Mac OS X, which holds 0.78 percent of the domestic market.
Android OS with 0.72 percent and Windows Vista with 0.69 percent were the bottom-ranked programs.
Web-browser market
The market share of the Google Chrome internet browser increased by 8.3 percent in Azerbaijan in the first quarter, Global Stats said.
Google Chrome, the most popular Web browser in the country, occupies 55.62 percent of the local market, which is 38.7 percent above the figure posted in the same period of 2012.
The second most popular browser was Opera with a 22.24 percent share on the market -- a decrease by 13.4 percent since the beginning of 2013.
The number of Internet Explorer users decreased by 11.8 percent. Thus, 9.87 percent of users prefer this browser in Azerbaijan, which is down by 41.6 percent as compared to the same period of 2012.
Changes also affected the Mozilla Firefox market share, which now stands at 7.49 percent after a decrease of 7.8 percent.
Meanwhile, Safari managed to increase its market share by 8.1 percent to 2 percent in Azerbaijan.
According to the State Statistics Committee, 353.4 million manats ($450.9 million) worth of information and communication services were rendered in Azerbaijan in the first three months of 2013, which is 12.5 percent more than in the same period of 2012.
