Ecology ministry monitors rivers

19 January 2013 [13:55] - TODAY.AZ
According to the National Hydrometeorology Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, currently, water richness holds 80-200% of decade norm in Guba-Khachmaz region rivers of Major Caucasus, 80-150% in Minor Caucasus rivers, 40-160% in Lankaran-Astara region rivers, while 60% in the rivers of Nakhichevan AR.

On January 18, 4cm increase of water level has been observed in Giragkesemen settlement of Kura river. Currently water consumption holds 130 m³/sec in the settlement, i.e 81% of decade norm (in 2012, 136 m³/sec, i.e 85% of decade norm).

On January 18, 2cm fall of water level was reported in Ayrichay settlement of Qanikh river. At present, water consumption holds 62 m³/sec, i.e 93% of decade norm. (in 2012, 59 m³/sec, i.e 88% of decade norm).

Increase of water level has been observed in the downstream of Kura river due to the water richness rise of the rivers floating to Kura river which stem from the relative temperature growth and gradual melt of snow in lowland regions.

In this regard, from January 16, 55cm increase of water level has been issued in Surra settlement of Kura river, 54cm in Shirvan, 10cm in Banka, 50cm in Novruzlu settlement of Aras river, while no change in Salyan. Stable water richness is observed notwithstanding the water level rise.

At present, water level holds 450cm (on January 18, 2012, 546cm) in Surra settlement, 327cm (on January 18, 2012, 445cm ) in Shirvan, 270cm (on January 18, 2012, 412cm) in Salyan, 243cm (on January 18, 2012, 306cm) in Banka, while 195 cm (on January 18, 2012, 285cm) in Novruzlu settlement of Aras river.
