'Progress made in Azerbaijan to protect children`s rights'

The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova has received head of UNICEF Office in Azerbaijan Mark Hereward to determine perspectives of cooperation on protection and realization of child rights among the Ombudsman and UNICEF Baku Office in the current year.

During the meeting, Ombudsman updated Mr. Hereward on the works done under the action plan on cooperation signed between the office of Ombudsman and UNICEF Baku Office, noting that necessary actions aimed at protection of the rights of the persons, including children with disabilities were taken, proposals were sent to respective state agencies by the Commissioner.

The issues of strengthening of independent national child protection mechanism, learning of the situation of children in need of special care, preparation of joint proposals, conducting of monitoring on recommendations of United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, organization of awareness-raising events, trainings, seminars, and publication of legal editions posters for promotion of child rights were also touched upon at the meeting.
Mr. Hereward, in turn, praised the progress made in Azerbaijan to protect children`s rights, as well as the authority of ombudsman of Azerbaijan, its activities in the field of human rights, including the rights of children.
