27 September 2012 [09:47] - TODAY.AZ
U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar has today hosted more than 250 education professionals and alumni of U.S exchange programs at his residence. The reception celebrated the value of U.S.-Azerbaijani exchange programs and the contributions of their alumni, as well as the close cooperation between the U.S. Embassy and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Education.

In the words of Ambassador Morningstar, “Exchange program participants, both from the United States and from Azerbaijan, play a critical role in strengthening the partnership between the countries. They are leaders in business, culture, and politics in both countries, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements.”

There are more than 4,000 alumni of U.S.-Azerbaijan exchange programs. Currently, 150-200 Azerbaijanis travel to the United States each year on U.S.-funded exchange programs while 40-50 Americans travel to Azerbaijan. There are 15 exchange programs that serve high school, university, and graduate students, as well as mid-career professionals.

“I am particular pleased with the close cooperation between the U.S. Embassy and the Ministry of Education on these programs. In addition to funding one-half of the Fulbright student program, the Ministry provides invaluable support to our high school and undergraduate programs. They are true partnership, exemplifying the friendship that defines Azerbaijan-U.S. relations, and we hope to expand our cooperation even further,” Ambassador Morningstar said.
