Water level ups in Kura River

National Hydrometeorology Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources is doing water measurements in Giragkesemen section of the Kur River, senior hydrologist of the National Hydrometeorology Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Asif Verdiyev told APA. He said the sharp increase of the water level in Georgia section of the Kur River caused increase of water level in Giragkesemen section in Azerbaijan’s territory. According to Asif Verdiyev, the water level has risen in the past four days.

“The rise has slackened. But the water level may rise again. Rain is forecasted in Georgia and Azerbaijan tomorrow. The water level is expected to rise in the Kur River in connection with this,” he said.

Asif Verdiyev said the water measurement in the Kur River aims to determine the volume of water in the river.
“The depth, speed of water, width of the river are measured, the volume of water flow will be determined after the measurements will be completed,” he said.

Senior hydrologist said compared to the previous years the water level in the Kur River is not so high. Asif Verdiyev said snow melting and rainfall may cause intermittent flooding in the mountain rivers, especially in the Kishchay, Girdimanchay, Talachay, Goychay rivers of the Great Caucasus.
