
Azerbaijan`s Minister of Internal Affairs, Colonel-General Ramil Usubov has met British Ambassador Peter Bateman. The Minister spoke of socio-political situation in Azerbaijan in the early years of independence, praising national leader Heydar Aliyev`s role in “saving the country which then was on the verge of collapsing”.
Usubov highlighted the Azerbaijani government`s reforms to strengthen the protection of human rights and freedoms in the country and to improve the work of internal affairs bodies.
The Minister hailed the participation of British experts in seminars held in Azerbaijani regions on the theme “Police and human rights” as part of cooperation with the Council of Europe. Bateman praised Azerbaijan`s achievements, saying the country is developing rapidly despite the economic crisis in a number of developed countries. The ambassador said he would make every effort to contribute to enhancing the relations between the two countries.
