Penalties for consumer fraud toughened

The Azerbaijani Parliament has today mulled the amendments to the Criminal Code. Under the changes, a fine imposed for consumer fraud will be in  the amount of 3,000 manat -5,000 manat  or community service for the period from 180 to 240 hours.

Consumer fraud means the provision of false information about commodity, its weight and size by private entrepreneurs when trading. Under the existing legislation, the fine amount 100- 300 manat or 80 hours of community service.
 
If the same acts are repeated the persons will be fined from 5,000 manat to 7,000 manat or will be imprisoned for 6 months by depriving from the rights of ranking any post or engaging in any activity until 3 years (300-600 manat , earlier).


The amendments were adopted.
