The Muslim communities in the US called on the country’s authorities not to use the phrase "Armenian genocide", the Turkish newspaper Sabah reported April 20.
In this regard, more than eight influential Muslim communities of the country sent a letter to the US Congress.
The assessment of the events of 1915 as the so-called Armenian genocide is a gross violation of the rights of representatives of other nationalities who have suffered during these events, the appeal said.
Moreover, the Muslim communities were in favor of historical investigation of the events of 1915.
Turkey has repeatedly stated that it is ready to open the archives to find out the truth about the events of 1915 and called on Armenia to establish a joint commission on this issue. Armenia ignores this proposal.
Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that Turkey's predecessor, the Ottoman Empire allegedly carried out ”genocide” against the Armenians living in Anatolia in 1915. Turkey in turn has always denied "the genocide" took place. While strengthening the efforts to promote the "genocide" in the world, Armenians have achieved its recognition by the parliaments of some countries.
