17 July 2013 [09:50] - TODAY.AZ
The European Union's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton will travel to Egypt on Wednesday to urge leaders to go back "as rapidly as possible" to the democratic transition, Xinhua reported.

"I am going to Egypt to reinforce our message that there must be a fully inclusive political process, taking in all groups which support democracy," Ashton said in a statement on Tuesday.

"I will underline that Egypt needs to return as rapidly as possible to its democratic transition. The EU is determined to help the Egyptian people on their journey to a better future of real freedom and economic growth," she said.

The EU's top diplomat will meet with leaders of the Egypian interim government as well as other political forces and representatives of civil society.

Fatal clashes have disrupted Cairo's uneasy calm, with at least seven people killed and hundreds more
