Richardson met with Azerbaijani Consul General Ellin Suleymanov in Los Angeles and highly spoke of Baku's balanced and focused policy. He noted that the U.S. and other country-partners in the region must support Azerbaijan to diversify energy supplies, Consulate General of Azerbaijan told Trend News.
Former Energy Minister Bill Richardson was an active participant in the negotiations on the planning of the major Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline during President Clinton administration. Richardson is a popular politician from Latin America, which was put forward as presidential candidate from the Democratic Party of the United States during 2008-elections. President Barak Obama appointed him as the Minister of Trade in the new administration.
In Los Angeles Suleymanov met with the House of Representatives Speaker Ben Lujan, as well as representatives of city administrations of the Santa Fe State.
The Azerbaijani diplomat delivered a lecture about Azerbaijan's role in the region in front of teachers and students in the New Mexico University and attended the ceremony organized by the Council on International Relations in Sante Fe, which was dedicated to Azerbaijan's regional policy.
