Azerbaijan, France interested in continuing agricultural projects

30 March 2009 [17:20] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan and France are interested in enhancing cooperation in the agricultural sector, Azerbaijani Deputy Agriculture Minister Bahram Aliyev said.
"We want to continue our joint projects. We made a proposal on the issue during the Azerbaijan-France intergovernmental commission meeting," Aliyev said.

Plant-growing projects are of special importance, he said.
Both countries are interested in increasing the amount of harvested grapes and wheat in Kur-Araz. Seeds are imported from France as a part of the Frazer project. Azerbaijan also hopes to sign new agreements with French wine-making companies.

The fifth Azerbaijan-France intergovernmental economic cooperation commission meeting was held in Baku on March 19. Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov and French Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Anne-Marie Idrac are co-chairs of the commission.

Azerbaijan-France goods turnover hit $2.5 billion in 2008. Imports account for $0.13 billion and exports - $2.3 billion.
