The power system of Azerbaijan generated more than 21.4 billion KWH of electric power in 2007, which is by 2.4 billion KWH lower as compared to 2006.

According to the press service of Azerenerji, thermal power plants made up over 19 billion KWH, and hydroelectric power stations 2.5 billion KWH of the said volume. Power generation totaled 2.2 billion KWH in December of 2007, including 2 billion falling on thermal power plants and 0.2 billion KWH on hydroelectric power stations.
The decline in generation is due to the reduced use of electric power by the population in the result of measures carried out for the purposeful use of electric energy, prevention of irrational use, installation of meters and supply of various regions with gas.
Planned cross-flows with neighbor countries, including Russia, Iran and Georgia continued last year.
