Azerbaijan's Agriculture Minister: "We will apply administrative sanctions to combat overpricing in 2008"

29 December 2007 [14:45] - TODAY.AZ
Prices on the agricultural fairs in Baku are lower by 40-50% average, as reported by Azerbaijan's Minister of Agriculture, Ismet Abbasov.

"Fairs aim to prevent artificial overpricing of agricultural products. We will also apply administrative sanctions along with economic ones in 2008", he announced.

The Minister noted that prices on production rise in process of transfer of products from a producer to a consumer.

Abbasov said farmers and entrepreneurs raise prices by 20-30% at the fairs.

"Prices of all non-foods, flats and services are rising today. I think in such conditions definite rise in prices of agricultural production is normal. Nevertheless, we will not permit artificial overpricing", he noted.

Abbasov also considers it possible to hold fairs in new places, if necessary.
