FM Bayramov discusses cooperation with his Maldivian counterpart

Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Maldives in the fields of economy, investment, tourism, and humanitarian efforts, as well as matters related to Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency. Minister Bayramov emphasized the importance of the high-level delegation from the Maldives visiting Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29, noting that such engagements are vital for exploring opportunities for bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Both sides highlighted significant prospects for collaboration in the areas of economy, investment, and trade. They agreed on the importance of leveraging these opportunities to enhance trade turnover and emphasized the need to explore potential partnerships in tourism and visa simplification to promote mutual exchanges. Minister Bayramov also provided a detailed briefing on Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency and expressed confidence in fostering mutually beneficial cooperation during this period.

Minister Abdulla Khaleel congratulated Azerbaijan on its COP29 Presidency and extended his best wishes for its success in leading global efforts to combat climate change.

The ministers also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.

Following the meeting, the ministers signed the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Maldives on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements for Holders of Diplomatic, Service, and Official Passports” and the “Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism between the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Maldives”.
