Date set for Azerbaijani-Australian business forum

A meeting with Australian businessmen was organized by the Honorary Consulate of Azerbaijan in Perth, Australia on the eve of the Azerbaijani-Australian business forum.

The first Azerbaijani-Australian business forum will take place in October in Baku, in which dozens of entrepreneurs from Australia are expected to take part, Honorary Consul of Azerbaijan in Australia Aidan Rzayeva told Trend.

The meeting participants were informed about Azerbaijan's economic and investment opportunities, projects implemented in the country in various spheres of the economy. Following the meeting, many businessmen expressed their intention to participate in the business forum in Baku.

Most recently, Baku hosted the event dedicated to 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two states.

The event was attended by Minister for International Development and the Pacific of the country Concetta Fierravanti-Wells and other officials of Australia, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on International Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Samad Seyidov, Head of the Azerbaijan-Australia interparliamentary friendship group and others.

In Baku, Fierravanti-Wells also met with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and the sides discussed ways to boost the ties.

Fierravanti-Wells expressed great interest in expanding relations with Azerbaijan in political and trade-economic areas, underlining the importance of developing inter-parliamentary cooperation, which is an important component of interstate relations.

The Commonwealth of Australia recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 26, 1991. Diplomatic relations between two countries have been established on June 19, 1992.

Azerbaijan exports crude oil to Australia. Butter is imported from Australia.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Australia amounted to $2.78 million in January-June 2017, according to Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee.
