Transport minister familiarizes with construction site at 'Galaba Square' - PHOTOS

Following the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the works under the projects on traffic management and improvement of the road infrastructure in Baku are continuing. "Akkord Industry Construction Investment Corporation" OJSC, by the order of the Ministry of Transport, is implementing the project on regulation of traffic, elimination of traffic jams and ensuring of traffic regime without traffic lights at the “Galaba Square” and its intersections near "Ganjlik" metro station.

The project, designed by a Singaporean company, envisages construction of 6 tunnels and 8 pedestrian crossings, as well as expansion of a connected roads. According to the project, it is planned to build two new exits at the "Ganjlik" metro station. At first, the " Ganjlik" metro station’s exit toAtaturk Avenue was relocated to the center of the "Galaba Square" and commissioned into operation. As per the project the completion of construction of the tunnel No 6 on Hasan Aliyev Avenue is expected by the end of this year.

On 14.12.2012, in order to get acquainted with the works being done under the project, Mr. Ziya Mammadov, the Minister of Transport the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Javid Gurbanov, the chairman of "Azeryolservis" OJSC and other officials visited the construction site. Mr. Khagani Guluzade, the General Director of "Akkord Industry Construction Investment Corporation" OJSC informed the Minister about the works performed. He noted that the works are carried out in accordance with the plan. At the beginning, a large number of exsiting communication lines were changed and replaced by more contemporary ones. After conclusion of the initial phase of the works, the works on the construction of tunnels have been started and these works are ongoing now.

Mr. Guluzade informed that the architectural design of the tunnel currrently being under completion, has been developed by an Italian company - “Venezia Design”. The General Director also informed that the walls are made of a fire-resistant fibrous concrete materials .The main individual feature of this tunnel relates to its lighting system.

He noted that the internal lighting system of the tunnel is the most advanced lighting system operating on the basis of semiconductor diodes (LED) that proved itself globally in terms of quality, efficiency, safety and durability. This lighting system is controlled by a computer. Lighting facilities, due to their functioning by a voltage turned by switchers to 12V volt, not only treble energy saving , but also considered to be very effective system in terms of safety and durability. The projectors installed in the ceiling of the tunnel operate in three modes: daytime, night and emergency mode.

In order to ensure continuous power supply, a 90 kW generator and rectifier are installed in the tunnel. In case of excessive emission of automobile toxic gases during jams in the tunnel, these waste gases are quickly taken out by means of an automatic ventilation system coming into operation. Electric cables used in the tunnel are made of non-flammable, even at high temperatures, insulation materials.

The Minister was also informed that all lighting equipment used in the tunnel are of production of England and tunnel cables and operational equipment are of German and the US production.

Aferwards, the minister Ziya Mammadov also got acquainted with the works on renovation of the communication lines conducted around the tunnel cosntruction site and highly estimated the works perfomed.

Note: The project provides for construction of 6 tunnels and 8 pedestrian crossings at the site as well as the expansion of a connected roads. According to the project, it is planned to build two new exits at the "Ganjlik" metro station. At first, the "Ganjlik" metro station’s exit toAtaturk Avenue was relocated to the center of the "Galaba Square" and commissioned into operation. Additionally, the project provides for construction of 8 underground pedestrain crossings on Ataturk avenue towards direction of Hasan Aliyev Avenue.

The project provides for a connection of Ataturk Avenue with Vagif Avenue as well as a connection of Ataturk Avenue with Tabriz avenue through Ahmad bay Aghaoglu street. In addition, it will be provided for a direct access to Darnagul avenue for traffic coming from Tabriz avenue without entering Ganjlik circle as well as for access to F.K.Khoiski avenue through side turns.
