In 1992 Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan joined this organization.

Main purpose of OEC is creation of favorable conditions to promote continuous social-economic development for all participating countries: steady and sequential integration of region states' economy in the global system, as well as promotion of active regional cooperation and mutual assistance in cultural, technical and other spheres.
