Safarov's trial in Hungary drags on

"Ramil Safarov will have to repeat medical examination in late November. A reference will be given after familiarization with the results of the examination," told Safarov’s lawyer Adil Ismayilov in his interview to APA news agency.

The lawyer informed that after there will be a reference from the expert examination the documents will be presented to the court. Ismayilov said that if it necessary he talks to his client by telephone and noted that Safarov’s living conditions are satisfactory.

Safarov’s mother Nubar Safarova told APA that last time she spoke with her son on October 29. Safarova said that her son did not complain about anything: "Ramil always speaks optimistically. He calls us every Saturday or Sunday. Every time he cheers us up and tells that everything is all right with him," says the woman.

Safarov’s mother added that though family is troubled with the prolongation of the trial, they believe that the court will make a fair decision. "I think that the state fulfills its part in this work. Generally, I am not worried as a mother, too. How can I moan before mothers whose sons died in a battle? I have four sons and each of them can be sacrificed for the motherland," said Nubar Safarova.

[Ed. Note] Ramil Safarov is a lieutenant of the Azerbaijani Army. In February of 2004, while attending a NATO Partnership for Peace program, Safarov was arrested by Hungarian police for the murder of Armenian fellow participant Lieutenant Gurgen Markarian. Markarian had repeatedly insulted the Azeri lieutenant who has lost relatives and was displaced during the Nagorno-Karabakh war.
