It will be easier to find lost phones in Baku

08 May 2012 [17:32] - TODAY.AZ
Baku will have control points for mobile phone IMEI codes, assigned by the manufacturer, CEO Caspian Mobile Ilyas Ahmedov told Trend.

The project is implemented by a consortium comprising Caspian Mobile, Integral, Mobitel and United Telecom.

Ahmedov said a pilot project is expected in July and a registration system will be fully functional from September.

"Control points will be used in dealer stores which will simplify the appeal procedure in case of phone being lost. Currently it is necessary to contact the police and go through certain procedures in some instances. These centres will take all the necessary documents centrally and can determine the location of the phone if it is in the network after connecting to the operator," Ahmedov said.

It will also be possible to verify the IMEI code of the mobile phone with the information in the registry through the points.

Access to the generalised database to verify ?ME? codes will be carried out either via SMS messages to the number of any mobile operator, or through the website where information will be available.
