Adil Baguirov, Executive Director of the U.S. Azeris Network, American Congressman Dean Heller from Nevada has sent his letter of response to an USAN campaign for the celebrations of May 28 as the National Day of Azerbaijan. Congressman Dean Heller from Nevada has been a steadfast supporter of the Azerbaijani-American community, and has written multiple letters to this effect to the USAN Board of Directors member, Dr. Umit Guneyi. Below is the letter itself.

Dear Umit,

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for the National Day of Azerbaijan. I appreciate your views on this important issue.

After the collapse of the Russian Empire, independence was declared for the Republic of Azerbaijan on May 28, 1918. The Republic of Azerbaijan was the first democratic republic in the Muslim world. Every year for the last 92 years, an estimated 40 million Azerbaijanis around the globe observe May 28 as the National Day of Azerbaijan and remember the contributions of their forefathers in the Caucasus area and the greater region.

Please rest assured that I will remember your thoughts on May 28, and I hope this year's National Day of Azerbaijan will be a special and memorable celebration for Azerbaijanis across the world. Once again, thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts on this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns.
