An event organized by Azerbaijani-American Council (AAC) and Assembly of Turkish-American Associations (ATAA) was held in Berkeley University in California.

The representatives of Azerbaijani and Turkish Diasporas in San Francisco, students and representatives of General Consulate of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles attended the event, press office of AAC said.

Member of AAC Board of Directors and professor of the State University of Montana, Thomas Goltz, professor of the University of Northern Dakota and author of the book “Irredentism: Ethnic conflict and international politics”, Thomas Ambrosio, researcher in history department of Californian University in Devise, Ph.D. Parvin Akhanchi, the elected president of ATAA, Ergun Kirlikovali, Javid Huseynov and others addressed the event.

During the event the documentaries prepared by Heydar Aliyev Foundation on Khojaly Genocide and historical monuments of Azerbaijan destroyed by Armenians on the occupied territories were demonstrated.

It should be noted that events on Khojaly Genocide, held annually in Berkeley University of California, have a symbolic meaning.

One of the graduates of this university was widely-known terrorist of ASALA Monte Melkonyan was killed by Azerbaijani troops in Khojavend in June 1993. In 2005, Markar Melkonyan published the biography of his brother in USA, where he stated the facts of brutality of Armenian troops towards Azerbaijani population during the occupation of Khojaly.

AAC ATAA and Azerbaijani Society of America (ASA) will hold a series of presentations on the commemoration of Khojaly Genocide with the events taking place in the University of George Washington in U.S. capital on Feb. 25 and in New York University on Feb. 27.

On Feb. 26, AAC and ASA will organize the protest action on Khojaly Genocide outside the UN headquarters in New York.
