2nd round of European Chess Championship was held in Porto Carras, Greece.
Azerbaijani men's team played with Armenia and won a landslide victory with a score of 3-1.
The first game between Teymur Rajabov and Levon Aronyan ended with a
draw. The game ended on the 26th move. Shakhriyar Mammadyarov beat
Vladimir Akopyan also on the 26th move during the second match.
Another victory for Azerbaijan came from Gadir Huseynov after he beat
Gabriel Sargsyan. Armenian chess player capitulated on the 45th move.
Azerbaijani team completely took the lead after the victory of Vugar
Hashimov over Sergey Movsesyan on the 53th move, with a final score of
3-1.

Zeynab Mammadyarova, representing Azerbaijani woman’s team, beat her
Lithuanian opponent Deymante Daula. The 2nd and 3rd matches were not as
successful for our team. The fate of the match was decided during the
4th game between Nargiz Umudova, and Hydra Vaganayte. Azerbaijani chess
player Nargiz beat her opponent and brought another point for the team.

After beating Armenian team, Azerbaijan took the 4th place. Azerbaijan,
along with other four teams, showed perfect results. So far the team
overall has 5.5 points. First place was given to Romania (7 points),
second place to Greece (6.5 points), and third place to Russia (6
points). Spain took 5th in the tournament. Azerbaijan is to play Greece
on the 3rd round of the tournament.
Azerbaijan’s women’s team took 21st place out of 28 national teams. We
have 1 match point and 3.5 for board points. Serbia is leading with 4
team points and 7.5 board points. The next team to play Azerbaijan will
be Spain.
