Azerbaijan will host international equestrian competition in 2011, Azerbaijani Equestrian Sport Federation (AESF) General Secretary Bahruz Nabiyev said at the press conference on Friday.

"So far, we have conducted several international competitions in category of "two stars". Now we are plan to hold international competitions in equestrian sports categories of "three, four and five stars". The Federation will hold a high-level international competition in equestrian sport in the country in 2011," Nabiyev said.

Nabiyev spoke about competitions held this year. "Azerbaijan held eight events on the equestrian sport in 2010. One of them was international and other competitions were local - at the country level," he said.

The AESF has established national team in equestrian sports.

"The main goal of the team is successful participation in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Members of the team are Jamal Rahimov, Francesco Franco and Patrin McKenzie. Team's general coach is world famous coach Nelson Pessoa," Nabiyev said.

Nabiyev also spoke about the problems that the federation faces.

"Work to promote local horse breeds- Karabakh and Shahbazski- in the world is underway. Our goal is to achieve international recognition of these breeds and their participation in international competitions. Another objective of the Federation is the restoration and updating of the ancient Azerbaijani national games such as "chevkan", "shurpapag" and fight on horseback," Nabiyev said.
