The city of Klaipeda, the third largest city in Lithuania located on the Baltic Sea coast, has hosted the 32nd edition of the World Military Wrestling Championship.

The Championship brought together 241 athletes from 22 countries.  

Azerbaijan’s freestyle wrestlers have finished 3rd in the overall medal table of the 32nd World Military Championship in.

The Azerbaijani wrestlers won a gold, silver and four bronze medals.

Galib Aliyev claimed a gold medal in the 61kg weight category. Female wrestler Turkan Nasirova has captured a silver medal.

Other Azerbaijani wrestlers Afgan Khashalov (57kg), Aghahuseyn Mustafayev (65kg) and Joshgun Azimov (70kg) took bronze medals of the tournament.

Russia topped the medal table, followed by Iran.

Wrestling remains the most popular sport in Azerbaijan and is overseen by the National Wrestling Federation, which was established in 1993.
