Azerbaijani wrestler Haji Aliyev (61 kg) has claimed a gold medal at the 2017 World Wrestling Championships in Paris, France.

The three-time world champion faced with the Russian Gadzhimurad Rashidov in the final match, Day.Az reported.

The fight ended with the victory of Aliyev with a score of 7: 1.

Previously, national wrestler Aslanbek Alborov grabbed bronze in the men`s 97kg weight category in Paris.

He secured the medal after defeating Kazakhstan`s Mamed Ibragimov 3-2.

Greco-Roman wrestler Elvin Mursaliyev claimed bronze after securing the medal in the men’s 80kg weight class.

Azerbaijan`s hopes are pinned on 15 wrestlers at the Championships. 

Wrestling remains the most popular sport in the county and is overseen by the National Wrestling Federation, which was established in 1993.
