Baku can host the Olympic Games in the future, Brazilian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Santiago Alcazar told Trend Feb. 20. Alcazar met with Brazilian athletes who arrived in Azerbaijan for the FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics. He said that he had already visited the National Gymnastics Arena during the first European Games. "This arena is magnificent,” he said. “Everything has been organized a high level.” The diplomat said that at present, a final stage of preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympics is underway. "It will be a great show,” he said. “I think that Baku can definitely host the Olympic Games in the future.” He also expressed his admiration for Brazilian gymnast Flavia Lopes Saraiva’s performance. "Saraiva performed perfectly,” he said. “She is only 16 and she has a great future. I wished her success in the final." The FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics kicked off in Baku Feb. 19 and is to end Feb. 21. As many as 45 male and 22 female gymnasts will compete for medals in apparatus finals of the World Challenge Cup. In general, athletes from 19 countries are to participate in the event. Men’s and women’s qualifications on the first two days of the competitions will be followed by apparatus finals on the last day. **** 18:39 Slovenian Honorary Consul to Azerbaijan Elnur Allahverdiyev met with a Slovenian delegation Feb. 20, which arrived in Baku for the FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics. During the meeting, the consul talked to athletes and coaches and wished them success in the competition. Slovenia is represented by six gymnasts at the FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics. Slovenia was represented by 81 athletes in 15 kinds of sport at the first European Games in Baku in 2015. The FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics kicked off in Baku Feb. 19 and is to end Feb. 21.
