The Blancos captain barely lasted a quarter of an hour of his comeback game, after taking an unintentional elbow to the ribs from team-mate Sergio Ramos.
Iker Casillas lasted only 14 minutes of Real Madrid’s Champions League encounter against Galatasaray on Tuesday night before being forced off through injury.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper took an innocuous elbow to the ribs from team-mate Sergio Ramos during the opening quarter and, despite initially appearing to have responded well to on-field treatment, he was ultimately unable to continue, with Diego Lopez coming on in this place.
Casillas, frozen out by former Madrid boss Jose Mourinho last season, had only just returned to the Madrid starting line-up, with current coach Carlo Ancelotti having preferred Lopez in goal for all three of los Blancos’ Liga matches so far this season.
This is not the first time that the Spain skipper has been hurt by one of his club colleagues, as he was injured by right-back Alvaro Arbeloa against Valencia last season, a development that forced Mourinho to sign current No.1 Lopez in the first place.
