Azerbaijan will compete in the IFSC World Climbing Championships which kicks off in Paris today.

According to the Azerbaijan Air and Extreme Sports Federation (FAIREX), the national squad includes four male and four female athletes.

The IFSC World Climbing Championships 2012 will take place in the prestigious Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy, one of Paris` most prestigious settings, where over 15000 spectators are expected.

The competition will host four different climbing competition formats: lead, bouldering, speed and paraclimbing. This international event will see more than 500 climbers from more than 60 countries take part in qualifiers and the finals and compete for world ranking.

For the second time, IFSC World Climbing Championships will welcome paraclimbing. This commitment shows IFSC will to develop the sport and its access to all types of public and climbers. Climbers and paraclimbers from the entire world will be able to write a fantastic page of climbing and sport history.

Following the decision of the International Olympic Committee to include Sport Climbing in the “short-list” for the 2020 Olympics Games, this event will be the occasion to promote climbing and all the values that belong to it.
