In the fourth round of the 40th World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul men’s national team of Azerbaijan met with the team of Germany, while female team met rivals from Armenia.

In the women’s tournament Zeinab Mammadyarova (Azerbaijan) beat Elina Danielian (Armenia) and Turkan Mamedyarova (Azerbaijan) won another Armenian chess player Lilit Galoyan. Khayala Iskenderova tied with Maria Course and Gulnar Mammadova suffered a defeat from Lilit Mkrtchyan. Thus, Azerbaijani women's team won the team of Armenia 2.5:1.5.

During a recent visit to Azerbaijan, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov met with the President Ilham Aliyev. Ilumzhinov proposed to hold the 2016 World Chess Olympiad in Baku, and this proposal was welcomed by the Azerbaijani President.
