Newly crowned Olympic discus champion Robert Harting had his
accreditation stolen and spent Tuesday night in a train station after
being denied access to the athlete`s village.
“Puuh I just got robbed while I did some work to please athletic fans! I
lost my accreditation for Olympic village!- no entrance,” the German,
who amused the Olympic stadium with his gold celebration jumping hurdles
around the track shirtless, tweeted.
He told German newspaper Bild, that a thief stole all his gear while he
was celebrating the gold medal with friends on the cruise ship MS
Deutschland, anchored on the Thames during the Olympics.
As a result the newly-crowned winner had to find alternative accommodation and spent the night at an un-named train station.
Luckily Harting does not have to worry about being granted access to his
own victory ceremony later this evening, as Locog has provided him with
a new accreditation.
Harting came in to Tuesday`s competition as odds-on favourite, winning
Germany`s first athletics gold in twelve years with his throw of 68.27
metres.
