An exhibition dedicated to the results of photo contest in support of the bid to hold the Summer Olympics 2020 in Azerbaijan, was held in Baku on Tuesday.

The exhibition opened at the Exhibition Centre Art-Garden.

Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Intigam Babayev said that every year, the ministry conducts various activities and competitions on cultural and historical heritage of the country. This year under campaign-bid to hold the 2020 Olympics in Azerbaijan, it was decided to hold photo contest dedicated to the sport heritage of the country. Signatures of about 500,000 citizens have been collected in support of the Olympics in 2020 in Baku. The collected signatures were submitted to the IOC.

Babayev expressed hope that soon we will witness the selection of Baku among the candidate cities.

CEO of the Baku 2020 Bid Committee Konul Nurullayeva noted that the IOC will select Candidate Cities on 23 May 2012.

She expressed hope that Azerbaijan will receive a positive response.

More than 100 participants submitted 500 photographs to the contest under the motto "Together we can!". Among them 100 works were selected for the exhibition, and four photographers got awards and diplomas.

Besides Baku, Istanbul, Doha, Madrid and Tokyo all compete for the right to host the Olympic Games in 2020. The executive committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will name the cities that will receive the status of candidates in Canada, Quebec, on May 23, 2012.
