Azerbaijani gymnast Aliya Garayeva won the silver medal at the 2012-Grand Prix in Moscow. The Azerbaijani Gymnastics Federation reported that the first show of the Azerbaijani national team leader won the second place in the final exercise with the ball, leaving behind the world champion from Russia Darya Kondakova. Other world champion from Russia Darya Dmitrieva won the gold. ”I have performed three new exercises with hoop, ball and maces at the past tournament,” Garayeva said. “The exercise with the ribbon was old one, but we have made little changes. I am satisfied with my performance, although I made several mistakes. I have something to work on. As always, I lack attention, because everything runs well during the trainings, I'm doing good runs. But, it is necessary that not only I and my coach, but the audience and judges saw this, because I love performing and want to please the audience. Compared to last year, I feel much more confident. I think the year starts well for me. Of course, the Olympic season is excited one, but we must be able to control emotions and not to worry very much. "
The best result of Azerbaijan’s gymnasts in an international junior tournament belongs to 14-year-old Nilufar Niftaliyeva - 6th place for the exercise with mace. As for the team score, Niftaliyeva, Mansura Bagiyeva, Gulsum Safizada and Ekaterina Prokopenko brought the 8th place to Azerbaijan among 35 countries.
Garayeva and Lala Yusifova will soon join international tournament in the capital of Latvia, the Baltic Hoop, which will be held on March 9-12.
