Russia will complete reconstruction work at Gabala radiolocation station in two years, military sources told APA.

Fundamental reconstruction work is conducted at the station changing its equipments and antennas. Therefore the radar is working partially.

The station will be provided with the most modern equipments until 2013, which will increase its opportunities several times in comparison with classic stations. The station’s effect on environment will be reduced to a minimum.

Russian Defense minister Anatoly Serdyukov, who visited Azerbaijan last week, was in Gabala radiolocation station and saw the reconstruction work there.

The Daryal-type radiolocation station was built in Gabala region of Azerbaijan in 1985. The radar station has a range of up to 6,000 kilometers. In 2002, Russia leased the station from Azerbaijan until 2012.
